Meet the Scientist w/ Yildiz Aumeeruddy-Thomas
June 14 • 18:30–21:00
Yildiz Aumeeruddy-Thomas is a Mauritian researcher living in France whose work focuses on local knowledge and biocultural interactions between agrarian societies and nature.
She uses interdisciplinary ethnoecological approaches combining ecology and anthropology. Having worked in various major biomes around the planet, including tropical rainforests, the high Himalayas, and the Mediterranean over the past 35 years, she examines the diversity of relationships between human societies and their environments, their practices, and representations of nature.
In this conference co-organised and moderated by the Sol Natal collective, botanist and anthropologist Yildiz Aumeeruddy-Thomas will address the following question: “Can the social life of trees, their unique characteristics, architecture, ecology, and connectivity with other living beings, soil, and climate help us imagine a world of reciprocity between humans and nature?”
